Last evening Shirley and I went to our grandchildren’s (Hannah – 8 and Ben – 5) last swim lesson of the summer. They have come a long way in the past couple of months and it is fun and exciting to see their fear of the water turn into excitement. It is fun to see their enjoyment and to catch a glimpse of them looking over to see if we’re watching.
But the best part was the end of the evening as we were saying good-bye. I had the honor of carrying Sarah (15 months) to the car. As we walked I talked with her. Her response, with her plugger in, was to lean and touch the plugger against me. She was giving me a kiss.
As I place her in her car seat, Ben and Hannah were busily getting settled in and latching their seatbelts. I kissed each one; Sarah, plugger still in, threw me a kiss. Sarah and Ben both said they loved me. I gave them big, “I love you and am so proud of you!”
God kissed me last night.
God must take tremendous pleasure in his grandchildren. That may sound funny, and I know we are all his children, but when a person is led to the Lord and then leads another generations to the lord, which in turn leads another generation to the Lord… That must really bring him pleasure.
I guess that is exactly why Jesus prayed for you and me in John 17:20; and for all those who will believe.
