I came across that word while reading. What!?!?!
So I checked it out on an online dictionary. Here you go, in case you didn’t know… Obfuscate- To make so confused or opaque as to be difficult to perceive or understand.
I laughed, the word itself was obfuscating. I thought about the word and the phrase you hear people say sometimes, “That really muddied the water.”
We really do muddy the water. I mean we really obfuscate. We’re experts at it and didn’t even know it. I wonder if I told someone I could be a professional obfuscatician (you’ll have to practice saying that- I’ve been working on it about 10 minutes so far) if they would understand? (Get it?) (I wonder how I would apply- I suppose I already have, I just don’t get paid for it. Now that’s a confession!)
In business, in life, we have a need for clear water. Maybe that was what Jesus was saying when he offered living water. There was a lot of obfuscation around. Some concerning religious life, some concerning the treacherous times, some concerning the living of life (like the woman at the well), and some about Jesus himself. I’m pretty sure there were others.
What I need to commit to, for every area of life, is living water. To make it a point to get rid of the obfuscation, and make sure I am living clean, pure, holy. Yeah, every area. In every dealing, in every situation, in every circumstance, in every conversation, in every… am I living water?
